Murder in an Irish Village
by Carlene O’Connor
Format: Audiobook
I love stories that take place in Ireland, especially the small towns and villages. Murder in an Irish Village is no exception. I’m grateful I listened to this audiobook, not only do you get to enjoy the book read in an Irish accent, but you don’t have to struggle to pronounce the names and places.
The very heart of this book revolves around the love of family and how far one would go to protect their own. I love the story of Siobhan, her siblings, and the café they run together after the untimely death of their parents. The struggles and sacrifices they must endure everyday helps bring these characters to life. The descriptions surrounding the café make me want to go there for a cuppa and fresh baked bread.
The murder is supposed to be the center of the story, but I think it’s much deeper than that. I love how Siobhan jumps right in to try to solve the case when her family is thrown into the thick of it. She wastes no time waiting for the Garda to save them as she feels an obligation to protect her own. In the end, the murder is solved and plays out quite well. I thought it was someone completely different than the actual culprit. This was a fun read, I liked the characters, and I look forward to reading more in this series.
